Are you having trouble trying to find neutral (meaning not sexy) functional (stretchy, durable) for your young daughter? My daughter just turned 5 and I switched from buying in the toddler area of the store to the bigger girls (ages 6 & over). I can honestly say this was traumatizing for me.  I couldn't find anything suitable for her.  The skirts were toooo short, the jeans to skinny and the shirts too tight.  Do you know of a store wher i can get age appropiate clothes for a 5 year old?

Late last night I received a visit from a friend (bearing ice cream  and sorbet) who was insistent on helping me recouperate from knee surgery. Yes, she had called first, but she was so filled with good wishes that I couldn't refuse her visit (even though it was 9:00pm and I was tired and hurting).
I soon found out, however, that she was doing this for herself. "I want to do a good deed every day" was her claim - over and over again.
Aha! I was her good dead for the day!  Glad to help out!

Good old Days

I was hiking in Olympic National Park today and came upon a man wearing a t-shirt that proclaimed: "These are the good old days".  It's right, you know, that we will, in the future look back upon today and be able to call it "the good old days".  We can only do that, however, if we're willing to put in the positive energy to make it so.  Facing a challenge, transition, difficult situation?  Live it so you can, indeed, remember today as "a GOOD old day"!

Golden Girls

As I reflect back on the show Golden Girls, I now recognize (with that wonderful vision allowed by hindsight) how very much it taught us all about aging: one never loses all the ages she's been - instead they become part of her, ready to pop out with joy if she allows that to be so.  As an "older" woman, I understand now that I don't have to fall prey to some vague stereotype but can, indeed, remain vital, youthful and playful all of my days.

Oh, yeah - now that I'm a grandmother I see so clearly that even toddlers have learned the art of "testing".  So much easier for me to spot from this generational distance.  They know how adorable they are - and the sooner moms and dads toughen up (sooooo hard to do) and not fall for the "adorableness" when food is dropped or "no" is ignored - the easier life will be for both parents and child.  Even grandparents have to learn to hold to their own "rule" or chaos will reign during visits.

I was recently in Dayton, OH watching the UCONN women Huskies (bball) play their way to the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio.  And, so, now I'm on my way to San Antonio for those games. It is extraordinary to me that women are finally beginning to receive the attention they deserve in the world of sports.  Are we up there with men yet?  No.  But it's a beginning and the more we take ourselves seriously - at anything and everything that we do, collectively and as individuals - the more the world will stand up and take notice.
As a CT fan, I hope the Huskies win the whole shebang.  But if they don't then Oklahoma or Baylor or Stamford will win.  And whichever way it goes, that will be a win for women and girls everywhere!

Your are so right!, one day at a time, 1 hour at a time, 1 minute at a time, the five year plan was taught to me when I was in college but now that I'm older and my family situation has changed it makes no sense.  My four grandchilden have become my life, and after meeting with each teacher, finding out how they are doing academically and getting the news that my two oldest have been excepted to magnet schools I have decided to wait to start my master's in January, but I did fill out my fafsa!

Where do I go from here?

Why a 5 year plan, Neftersi?  Why not a day at a time?  When I try to take on too much at one time I always remind myself of the saying that "the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time."  Nope, I don't expect to eat an elephant, but any major plan takes one step at a time.  So, sit down, girlfriend, and decide what you want to try first.  That will eventually lead to the next step then the next!
